Reading the questions John has proposed for the social bookmarking task I was prompted to initially reflect rather negatively on the overall impression these tasks have left me with. I have had to download applets and viewers and browsers and plugins and I've made what seems like a zillion new accounts with things I'm never going to use again but...
In reality people select the things, the tools they are comfortable with and ignore the rest, maybe they wouldn't even try a new tool unless prompted by necessity.
We are being pushed to try them for a reason. It is vitally important for information professionals to understand the concepts behind the tools, why they are or aren't be adopted and how they can be adapted for a particular purpose. So despite the fact that I now have over 24 social web tool accounts and I feel a little bamboozled I know I will be able to be more confident in selecting the tools that will ultimately allow me to manage my professional and personal resources more seemlessly and efficiently and become part of the 'new' community approach to information sharing and use.
That sounds fairly positive!!
Haha yes it does feel like Web 2.0 overload at the moment but I agree, we are now more confident in selecting and adapting tools - yay! That sounds VERY positive to me ;)
