Why MIM?

Why am I studying a Masters of Information Management?
  1. I want an international and flexible qualification
  2. I am a great fan of ongoing personal and professional learning
  3. I'm a sucker for punishment?
Why am I not studying a Masters in Librarianship?
  1. I'm a bit weary of being pigeonholed, by my peers, my colleagues and by the public
That sounds a little sad; sorry about that!
And yes I do see my future in libraries but in really interesting ones that have pzazz  because well trained and inspired staff have made them that way!

  1. Hi Claire,
I feel the same as you. I think my reasons for wanting to work in Libraries has a lot to do with the people you get to work with - they (we) are the ones that work together to make them interesting and relevant.
Whenever I tell people what i'm studying they kind of look at me as if im the most boring person in the world (that in fact could be true) and say 'but books are redundant aren't they?'. That's when I come in with, 'actually there's a lot more to it than that.' I feel like there's some weird kind of stigma attached to the world 'library'. But what is it?
So lately i've been telling people 'Oh, I'm studying to be an archivist' or 'I'm going to be a cataloger' or 'I'm going to work in the rare manuscripts department as a research librarian.'
This usually gets an 'Oh! that sounds interesting.' I reckon it's all interesting :)
I really hope this course is everything you want it to be.
